How often have you ever been suspicious of someone from another country? How often have you thought that it was foreign person who commited a major crime? Hopefully you said no to both of these questions. The racial profiling of people of from other countries is a major proplem in the United States. In our classroom we handed out a survey to all of the the people asking them if they though that racial profiling exsisted in the United States. We recieved a majority of 84% who said that it did. We also found that anyone who is neither Christian nor caucasian has actually been made fun of by others. On top of this, anyone whose family originated from the Middle East has been blamed for being a terrorist because of attacks on the United States by extremists.
Here are some of the quotes from the various racial groups who have been victimized students at our local school and tell how they think our community is biased towards race:
-"I'm Middle Eastern, so people call me a terrorist."
-"There is a house that says 'White Power' on it."
-"I'm not Chinese."
-"They make fun of me because I'm black."
We hope to change these feelings by people eventually being able to say, "No. I have never been made fun of or treated less equally because of my race." We also hope that you help us make this dream for the future come true.
